3 type of hunger you can extinguish

Apart from the healthy hunger that happens when you haven’t eaten for a while, there are 3 other hungers types that occur to our bodies. I’ve personally experienced them all and here are some solutions!

EMOTIONAL HUNGER

Sadness, loneliness, boredom, stress at work can all cause a sudden hunger spike and a desire to ‘heal and fix’ the emotional state you’re in by eating. As foods high in fat and carbs give you instant energy boost, and unfortunately faster fat storage too…
How to fix it? Switch to finding pleasure elsewhere. Pamper your body (take a bath, have a massage), nurture your creativity with hands on projects (drawing, play an instrument) or do something nice for your soul (music, fun activity, reading).

SOCIAL HUNGER

Do you know somebody who eats with such enjoyment, that you instantly want to eat too? My grandfather was like that. It was fun to watch him eat, he really took his time and you could see how much pleasure every bite gave him. Result? I instantly wanted to have a meal like his or start chewing on something!
Another social hunger example is when you’re at a gathering with food displayed right in front of you. Think cocktail parties with canapés, weddings with buffets and house parties with huge bowls of crisps and popcorn. When your host has put so much effort into preparing all the food, or your friends take 3 rounds to a buffet, eventually you might get an appetite and join in despite feeling full just few moments ago. You can also fall into a trap of wanting to be polite by eating, aka ‘would be rude not to’ mentality. Or just genuinely feel peckish by watching everyone else eat.
How to fix it? Get truly social! Chat more, jump on the dance floor, offer your help with clearing up or engage in the group activity. You’d still feel like you’re a part of the gathering and distract yourself from overeating.

SENSORY HUNGER

The hardest one to control, as this one catches you off-guard any time, any where. Passing by a bakery where the fresh bread has been made, or seeing a very delicious looking dish on TV. Coming across a very visually tasty meal or smelling it = a sudden urge to eat.
How to fix it? Beat it with overwhelming your senses with a substitute. Smell a floral perfume or coffee beans, change the channel or have some gum instead.
Do you get any of these hungers too? What would be your tips to kick it?
